Locked your keys inside the car? Don't try to force the door open or use a coat hanger β you could damage the weather stripping, window mechanism, or paint. Our technicians use professional, non-destructive entry tools to unlock your car within minutes. Available 24/7 anywhere in the Twin Cities metro.Β
$75 β $125 (after-hours surcharge applies)
Lost your only car key? No problem. We can cut and program a new key on-site even if you have no original. Using your vehicle's VIN (visible through the windshield) and specialized decoding equipment, we create a working key for most makes and models. Average time: 20-40 minutes.Β
$120 β $350 depending on vehicle make and key type
Most cars made after 2000 use transponder keys with embedded computer chips. These keys must be programmed to your vehicle's immobilizer system before the car will start. We have dealership-level programming tools for Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Subaru, and more. We program on-site β no towing to a dealership.Β
$80 β $200 programming fee + key cost
Won't turn? Key stuck? Ignition cylinder jammed? These are signs of a failing ignition switch or worn tumblers. We diagnose, repair, or replace ignition cylinders on-site for most vehicles. If your key broke inside the ignition, we extract it and repair the cylinder.Β
$150 β $450 depending on vehicle and parts
Key snapped off in the door lock, trunk, or ignition? Don't try to fish it out yourself β you could push the broken piece deeper or damage the lock mechanism. We have specialized extraction tools to remove broken keys quickly without damaging the lock. Most extractions take 15-20 minutes.Β
$60 β $150 (extraction only, excludes new key)
Dead key fob? Buttons stopped working? Lost your remote? We supply and program replacement key fobs, smart keys, and proximity remotes for most vehicles. Includes battery replacement, button repair, and full functionality testing (lock, unlock, trunk release, panic, remote start).Β
$100 β $400 depending on vehicle and fob complexity
Locked your keys in the trunk? Need something from a locked glove box? We can open both without damage. For trunk lockouts, we can either pick the trunk lock (if accessible) or access through the back seat or interior release mechanism.
$75 β $125 same as lockout pricing
Broken door lock actuator? Lock won't move with the key or fob? Manual lock cylinder jammed? We repair or replace exterior door lock mechanisms on most vehicles. We also rekey door locks to match your ignition key if they've been replaced separately.
$120 β $350 depending on vehicle and parts
Some vehicles (especially GM, Mercedes, BMW, Audi) use high-security keys with rolling codes or laser-cut designs. We have the specialized equipment to program VATS (Vehicle Anti-Theft System), sidewinder, and laser-cut keys on-site β no dealership visit required.
$180 β $500 depending on vehicle and key complexity
Stranded at the pump because your fuel door won't open? We can manually release or open stuck gas cap doors on most vehicles. Get back on the road quickly without damaging your vehicle's paint or body panels.

You're stranded in Bloomington with no spare. We verify ownership (license + registration), use your VIN to cut and program a new key on-site in the parking lot. You're back on the road in 30-45 minutes.
It's freezing outside and half your key is stuck in the ignition. Don't try to remove it yourself β you could damage the ignition cylinder. We extract the broken piece and, if needed, cut and program a new key. Most extractions take 15-20 minutes.
The battery died, or the buttons are unresponsive. We test, replace batteries, repair broken buttons, and reprogram if needed. If the fob is beyond repair, we supply and program a replacement on-site.
The dashboard lights work, but the engine won't turn over. This could be an immobilizer issue β your car isn't recognizing the transponder chip in your key. We diagnose and reprogram or replace the key as needed.
You got out to pump gas, the door auto-locked, and your keys are on the seat. We arrive within 20 minutes, unlock the door non-destructively, and you're back on the road. No damage, no drama.
Minnesota winters are brutal on car locks. Ice buildup, frozen mechanisms, or worn tumblers can prevent your key from turning. We de-ice, lubricate, and repair frozen or jammed car door locks on-site.
Minneapolis (all neighborhoods), St. Paul (all neighborhoods), Bloomington (including Mall of America area), Plymouth, Maple Grove, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Edina, Burnsville, Brooklyn Park, Richfield, St. Louis Park, Golden Valley, Hopkins, Wayzata, Prior Lake, Shakopee, Woodbury, Cottage Grove, Andover, Coon Rapids, Lakeville, Eagan, Apple Valley, Rosemount, Farmington, Hastings, Stillwater, White Bear Lake, Vadnais Heights, Oakdale, Maplewood, Roseville, Fridley, Mounds View, New Brighton, Columbia Heights, Crystal, Robbinsdale, New Hope.
We also provide roadside assistance on major highways including I-94, I-35W, I-494, I-694, I-394, Highway 100, Highway 169, and Highway 36.
Yes β in most cases. We use your vehicle's VIN (visible through the windshield) and specialized decoding equipment to determine the correct key cut. For transponder keys, we then program the new key to your vehicle's immobilizer system. This works for most makes and models from 1990 to present. Some very new or high-security vehicles may require dealership assistance, but we handle 95% of cars on the road.
Most car key replacements take 20-40 minutes on-site. Basic non-transponder keys are faster (10-15 minutes). Smart keys and high-security keys with programming can take 30-45 minutes. We work as quickly as possible while ensuring the key functions correctly.
Yes β BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Land Rover, and other European vehicles typically cost more due to specialized equipment, proprietary programming protocols, and more expensive key blanks. Expect to pay $250-$500 for a fully programmed smart key for a luxury vehicle. We'll always provide a firm quote before starting.
+ Can you program a key fob I bought online?
Yes β we can program most aftermarket or OEM key fobs purchased online, provided they are compatible with your vehicle. However, we cannot guarantee the quality or compatibility of third-party fobs. We charge a programming fee of $80-$200. If the fob doesn't work, you still pay for the programming attempt. For this reason, we recommend using our supplied fobs β they're guaranteed to work.
You'll need: (1) Proof of ownership β vehicle registration and driver's license matching the name. (2) Your VIN (visible through the windshield on the driver's side dash). (3) Your location. For fleet or company vehicles, we may require authorization from the registered owner.
+ Do you offer discounts for multiple keys or fleet vehicles?
Yes β we offer volume pricing for car dealerships, rental car companies, towing companies, and businesses with fleet vehicles. Contact us for a custom quote based on your fleet size, key types, and service frequency. We also offer annual fleet maintenance agreements.
Yes β dead car battery does not prevent us from unlocking your door. Mechanical lock picking and manual tools work regardless of electrical power. If your vehicle has electronic-only locks (some newer luxury cars), we have external power sources to briefly energize the system.
+ What's the difference between a transponder key and a smart key?
A transponder key looks like a traditional metal key with a plastic head containing a computer chip. You insert it and turn to start. A smart key (proximity key or keyless fob) allows push-to-start β the key stays in your pocket. Smart keys are more expensive ($200-$500 vs $120-$350 for transponder). We handle both.
Don't wait in the cold or miss important appointments. MPLS Locksmith is available 24/7 for Twin Cities drivers.
We come to you β home, work, parking lot, gas station, or roadside.
